Welding coolant is high heat capacity and low cost making it a suitable heat-transfer medium.

Compared to welding coolant, water does not work nearly as well as it does to keep your engine cool. First, water boils faster and at a lower temperature than coolant. In winter, you risk your engine block cracking if you run your machine with only plain water.
